| Obverse description | St. Michael, depicted as a winged figure in armour, is shown in full figure trampling and slaying a dragon with a long cross-tipped spear, all within a beaded inner circle. The Roman numeral X appears in the left field, serving as a denomination mark. The surrounding legend in Latin reads CAROLVS D G MAG BRI FRA ET HIB REX, separated by pellets. The design is executed in the bold, somewhat coarse style characteristic of hammered gold coinage of the Tower mint under Charles I. Note: this example bears a piercing hole, indicating it was at some point mounted or worn as a touchpiece or ornament. |

| Reverse description | A large three-masted sailing ship is depicted in profile, its central sail prominently bearing the quartered royal arms of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland. Rigging, crow's nest, and furled sails are rendered in fine detail typical of the hammered angel type. A rose appears to the left of the ship and the letter H (for the Tower mint) below, with waves indicated beneath the hull. The encircling Latin legend AMOR POPVLI PRAESIDIVM REGIS runs within a beaded border. As on the obverse, this example bears a piercing hole consistent with use as a touchpiece or pendant. |
