Obverse description Central field occupied by the crowned interlaced cypher of Landgrave Charles of Hesse-Cassel, composed of a decorative script monogram surmounted by a princely crown with elaborate ornamentation. The letters L and H flank the monogram at lower left and right respectively, serving as additional identifiers of the issuing authority. The entire device is set within a plain inner circle bordered by a beaded outer rim running the full circumference of the coin. The design is rendered in a restrained Baroque style typical of late seventeenth-century German territorial coinage.
