Issued the year before Mohammad Zahir Shah's government launched its First Seven-Year Economic Development Plan, this coin circulated during what is often called the most stable period of 20th-century Afghan monetary history. Da Afghanistan Bank had been established only in 1939, and nickel clad steel reflected both the era's industrial pragmatism and Afghanistan's limited domestic refining capacity.
