The legend proclaims the Islamic declaration of faith together with the affirmation of Ali's authority as wali (vicegerent) of God, a hallmark of Safavid Twelver Shi'ite coinage. The script is vigorously struck with characteristic late Safavid overlapping letterforms and minor weakness at the irregular flan edges. No figural or emblematic devices are present; the composition is entirely epigraphic. |
