Obverse description Hammered silver flan of irregular round shape bearing the Shi'a kalima in three lines of bold nasta'liq Arabic script across the central field: the shahada 'La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammad rasul Allah' in the upper two registers, followed by the devotional phrase 'Ali wali Allah' in the lower register. The legends are enclosed within a beaded inner border, the whole struck on an irregular planchet characteristic of late Safavid hammered coinage. The script is deeply impressed and displays the flowing calligraphic style typical of Shah Sultan Husayn-era issues.
