Obverse description Couplet inscription in Arabic script occupying the full field, struck on a roughly circular, irregular flan characteristic of Safavid hammered coinage. The legend reads the royal devotional formula identifying Shah Sultan Husain as 'dog at the doorstep of Ali,' a traditional expression of Shia piety referencing Ali ibn Abi Talib, the first Imam. The calligraphy is arranged in multiple horizontal registers with the characteristic bold, cursive style of late Safavid die engraving. The flat, uneven flan surface shows typical die shift and weak peripheral strike.
