The cartouche is surrounded by floral and arabesque decorative elements filling the field. The flan is irregular in shape, characteristic of hammered Safavid coinage, with the legends partially off-flan due to the noted die or striking error. | Description du revers | Shi'a kalima legend in bold Nasta'liq script occupying the lower portion of the field, reading the profession of faith with the phrase 'Ali-un wali-ullah' (Ali is the vicegerent of God), as is standard on Safavid abbasi coinage of this period. The upper field is largely flat and worn, consistent with the irregular strike noted on this error coin. The legend flows in a continuous band across the flan, with portions of the inscription visible toward the margins. |
