Habibullah Khan ruled Afghanistan from 1901 until his assassination in February 1919 while on a hunting trip in Laghman province — a murder never conclusively solved, though his son Amanullah, who seized the throne within days, was among the suspects. The abbasi denomination itself was a Persianate monetary unit inherited from Safavid-era coinage tradition, kept alive in Afghan usage long after it had vanished elsewhere.
KM#851 spans nearly the entire reign, and die workmanship varies noticeably across the issue years.
