Obverse description Central device depicting the armorial bearings and supporters of the United East India Company, resting upon a scroll bearing the incuse inscription UNITED EAST INDIA CO. The broad, raised rim carries an incuse legend reading AUSPICIO REGIS ET SENATUS ANGLIAE. At the base of the design, within a sunken rectangular panel, appears the relief inscription 96 TO ONE RUPEE, denoting the coin's denomination as one ninety-sixth of a rupee. The overall design is executed in a restrained neoclassical style characteristic of Soho Mint production.
