Obverse description Central field features the large numeral '96' denoting the denomination, rendered in bold relief within a plain circular frame. The circular legend CEYLON * GOVERNMENT arcs around the periphery, separated from the central device by a ring of raised beads. The overall design is stark and utilitarian, characteristic of Soho Mint colonial issues of the early nineteenth century.

Reverse description The reverse displays a seated figure, likely Britannia, in left profile above a horizontal exergual line, below which the date 1802 is prominently inscribed.
