Additional information

Lodovico Manin was the 120th and final Doge of Venice — the republic collapsed under Napoleonic pressure in May 1797, just months after the last of these were struck. Manin reportedly wept and removed his ducal cap when informed that resistance was futile, handing it to his servant with the words that he would not be needing it again. No subsequent Doge was ever elected.
