Aanvullende informatie

Issued during the Imperial Vicariate of 1612, this coin was struck in the administrative vacuum following the death of Emperor Rudolf II in January of that year. As Arch-Marshals of the Empire, the Saxon Electors held the right to exercise vicarious imperial authority over the German territories governed by Saxon law during interregna — a privilege they were careful to advertise on coinage. John George I and his elder brother August co-issued as joint rulers, August having been administratively subordinate since John George's assumption of the electorate in 1611.

The Vicariate itself lasted only until Matthias was elected Emperor in June 1612.
