Additional information

Albert II of Brandenburg-Ansbach died in 1667 after a reign marked by the slow recovery of the Franconian territories from the devastation of the Thirty Years' War. Memorial issues like this 1/8 Thaler were a standard Hohenzollern funerary practice — struck not for prolonged circulation but for distribution among the court and as diplomatic gifts. They rarely saw hard use, which partly explains why survivors tend to appear in comparatively better condition than contemporary circulating issues from the same mint at Schwabach.
