Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the rampant lion of Brunswick faces left, rendered in high relief with detailed mane and tail. The surrounding legend, divided by the date, reads MONETA NOV REIP BRUNSVIC followed by the year of issue. The design is characteristic of early 17th-century hammered municipal coinage, with the civic arms serving as the principal device in the field.
