| Obverse description | Central field displays the arms of the Archbishopric of Mainz — a horizontally barry shield of argent and gules — set within an elaborate baroque cartouche flanked by foliate and acanthus scroll ornaments. The date 1763 is divided by the lower portion of the cartouche, with '17' to the left and '63' to the right. The circular legend CAPITUL.METROPOLIT.MOGUNTINI arcs around the upper periphery, while SEDE VACANTE appears in two lines in the lower exergual area, denoting the vacancy of the archiepiscopal see. |
