Additional information

Portuguese India's fractional copper coinage of this period was struck at the Calcutta Mint under a contract arrangement — Lisbon lacked both the capacity and the political will to supply its dwindling Estado da India territories from metropolitan mints. The Calcutta connection was purely logistical, a consequence of British India's minting infrastructure being far closer to Goa than anything Portugal could offer.

The five-year production window across 1881–1886 reflects fitful colonial budgeting rather than consistent demand.
