The effigy occupies the central field against a deeply mirrored proof background. Alderney holds a peculiar constitutional position — a dependency of the British Crown through the Bailiwick of Guernsey, but not part of the United Kingdom, giving it the right to issue its own commemorative coinage while remaining outside mainstream British monetary circulation. The 95th birthday issue appeared in 2021, the same year the Queen became the first British monarch to reach that age.
