Alderney has no mint of its own and issues coins as a Crown Dependency collectible series under licence, with striking typically contracted to the Royal Mint or private mints. This 2021 issue marks two centuries since Benedetto Pistrucci's St. George and the Dragon reverse was first used on British gold coinage in 1821 — a design the Italian gem-engraver reportedly refused to sell outright to the Crown, which is why it was never engraved by another hand under his supervision.
