| Reverse description | Central device consists of a crowned lined orb bearing the Three Crowns of Sweden, encircled by the Chain of the Order of the Seraphim. The pendant of the chain divides the mintmark below, while the fractional denomination appears on either side of the orb. Adolf Fredrik's reign saw persistent tension between the crown and the ruling parliamentary factions — the Caps and the Hats — that effectively stripped the monarchy of meaningful executive power. By 1767, the king was so politically marginalized that he famously signed legislation by stamping documents with a seal reading "This is done against my will." The "small head" variety of this type reflects a mid-series die modification, distinguishing it from the earlier large-head strikes and making attribution a matter of die study rather than casual inspection.
