| Obverse description | Mexican republican eagle displayed at center, perched upon a cactus plant rising from a rocky outcrop, with a serpent clutched in its beak and wings spread wide in heraldic fashion. An olive branch and laurel branch flank the eagle at lower left and right respectively. The circular legend REPUBLICA MEXICANA arcs around the upper periphery in incuse Latin script. The overall design follows the standard Mexican national arms convention of the early republican period. |

The circular outer legend ESTADO DE DURANGO arcs around the upper portion of the coin, while the date appears at the base within the border. Decorative star-shaped ornaments punctuate the legend at intervals.
