A horizontal cartouche-like division separates the upper and lower portions of the legend. The text reads the Islamic declaration of faith with the Shi'a addition acknowledging Ali as the friend of God. A dotted inner border encircles the entire field, characteristic of Safavid hammered gold coinage of this period. |

The legend identifies the issuer as the servant of the Shah of Wilayat (Ali), names the ruler Safi, and records the mint city of Isfahan along with the AH date 1038. A dotted inner border frames the design, consistent with the obverse treatment and typical of Safavid royal gold fractional coinage struck at the Isfahan mint. |
