Obverse description The obverse field is filled with a bold Shi'a kalima inscription rendered in deeply struck nastaliq script, arranged across the flan in multiple registers. A horizontal cartouche-like division separates the upper and lower portions of the legend. The text reads the Islamic declaration of faith with the Shi'a addition acknowledging Ali as the friend of God. A dotted inner border encircles the entire field, characteristic of Safavid hammered gold coinage of this period.
