Obverse description Central field displays a fleur-de-lis cross with fleurs-de-lis terminating each arm, the uppermost arm surmounted by a single fleur-de-lis finial. The cross divides the field into four quarters, each containing a fleur-de-lis motif. A circular Latin legend surrounds the design within a beaded border, reading HENRI. 4. D. G. FRAN. ET. NAVAR. REX., identifying Henry IV by the grace of God as King of France and Navarre. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and bold relief typical of late sixteenth-century French hammered silver coinage.
