Obverse description The Transylvanian coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting the traditional quartered shield with the eagle and the seven towers of the Saxon cities in the lower portion. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown topped with a cross, rendered in high relief with fine detailing. The design is presented without a surrounding legend, the arms filling the flan in a bold, compact composition characteristic of small hammered gold coinage of the Habsburg period.
