Obverse description Right-facing draped bust of Emperor Haile Selassie I in profile, wearing an ornate imperial crown adorned with a cross at the apex and traditional Ethiopian regalia, including an elaborately embroidered ceremonial robe with a pectoral cross visible at the chest. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail. A circular Ge'ez legend surrounds the portrait near the toothed border, with an Ethiopian calendar date inscribed in the lower field below the bust.

A circular Ge'ez legend surrounds the central device near the toothed border, and the denomination appears in Ge'ez script in the lower exergue.
