The Cessetani occupied the coastal territory around modern Tarragona — Kese in ancient sources — and began striking their own bronze coinage under the increasingly watchful eye of Rome following the Iberian campaigns of the early second century BC. This issue dates to the period when Roman administrative consolidation of Hispania Citerior was actively reshaping local political structures, yet indigenous communities retained enough autonomy to mint independently for several more decades.

The fractional denominations of Cessetanian bronze are among the least documented in the Iberian series, with CNH attributions for the smaller units still subject to ongoing scholarly revision.
