The Cessetani were an Iberian people centered around modern Tarragona — Kesse in ancient sources — whose coinage emerged directly from the chaos of the Second Punic War. Roman forces landed at Emporion in 218 BC, the very year Hannibal crossed the Alps, and the fractional bronze issues of allied Iberian communities almost certainly served the logistical demands of that campaign as much as local exchange.

ACIP 1115 is among the smallest denominations in the Cessetani series, suggesting a well-developed internal fractional system rather than purely military utility.
