| Beschrijving voorzijde | Printed in dark brown ink on thick, rough orange-tinted paper, the obverse centres on a rectangular vignette in which two armoured knights stand as heraldic supporters flanking a townscape of Neustadt an der Orla. Rectangular cartouches to either side of the vignette carry the denomination and the city coat of arms respectively. A Latin inscription recording the Croat pillage of 1632 runs along the lower border in letterpress. |

Neustadt an der Orla was a small Thuringian town, and like hundreds of similar municipalities in 1921, its local newspaper publisher — the Neustädter Kreisbote — stepped in to produce emergency Notgeld when small-denomination coinage had effectively vanished from circulation. A newspaper house issuing currency is unusual enough; a 1.50 Mark denomination is more so, reflecting the chaotic, ad hoc arithmetic of the Notgeld period rather than any standardized system.
Designed and printed in Jena by Dietzel, the note belongs to a well-documented Thuringian regional group catalogued under DeNG 1/2#964.
