| Opmerkingen |
Weener is a small market town in East Frisia, on the Ems near the Dutch border, and its Spar- und Leihkasse — a local savings and loan cooperative — resorted to issuing Notgeld during the hyperinflationary spiral of 1922 when small-denomination Reichsmark coinage had effectively vanished from circulation. The 1.50 Mark denomination itself is a curiosity: an odd fractional value that only makes sense in the context of acute change shortages, not any standard monetary unit.
Selmar Bayer was a Berlin commercial printer who produced Notgeld for numerous small issuers during this period. Prolific, not prestigious.
