Obverse description Draped bust of Mozaffar ad-Din Shah Qajar in three-quarter left-facing profile, wearing a tall Persian Karakul cap adorned with an aigrette plume at the crown and jewelled ornaments at the band. The effigy depicts the Shah in elaborate military uniform with heavily decorated epaulettes and bejewelled collar, rendered in high relief consistent with piedfort production. A beaded inner border frames the design, and the field is plain. The Arabic legend naming the Shah and the mint city Tehran appears around the portrait.
