| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field displays the Portuguese royal shield (quinas), bearing five escutcheons arranged in a cross pattern, each charged with five bezants, set within a pointed heater-shaped shield. The shield is rendered in the Gothic style typical of the late 14th to early 15th century Portuguese coinage. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters surrounds the central device, reading IHNS DEI GRA REX. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and flat relief of hammered billon coinage of the period. |
