Leinenkugel's has operated continuously in Chippewa Falls since 1867, making it one of the oldest surviving regional breweries in the Midwest. These small paper "taste" tokens — redeemable presumably for a measured pour at the brewery or a promotional event — occupy an odd corner of brewery ephemera that sits between coupon, scrip, and souvenir. Jacob Leinenkugel founded the operation just two years after the Civil War ended, in a town where clean water from the Chippewa River was the practical selling point.
The piece is tiny even by brewery token standards, which likely kept print runs cheap and losses inconsequential.
