The Plus Ultra flight of January–February 1926 was the first transatlantic crossing by air from Europe to South America, completed by Ramón Franco, Eduardo González Gallarza, and their crew in a Dornier Wal flying boat — a German-designed aircraft built under licence in Italy to circumvent post-war restrictions on German aviation manufacturing. The journey covered roughly 10,270 kilometres across multiple legs, ending in Buenos Aires after 59 hours and 39 minutes of total flight time.
Franco's reception in Argentina was extraordinary, triggering celebrations across the Spanish-speaking world. The Spanish government awarded him the Grand Cross of Naval Merit almost immediately upon return.
