Guadamur Castle, outside Toledo, is one of the better-preserved late-medieval fortifications in Castile, built largely in the 1460s under Pedro López de Ayala. It gained a stranger footnote when Juana I — later called "la Loca" — was briefly confined there in the early sixteenth century, her movements restricted by a court that had already decided she was unfit to rule.
The 1.5 euro denomination is a Spanish mint convention for base-metal collector issues, carrying no circulation role.
