| Beschrijving keerzijde | The quartered and crowned coat of arms of Philip II of Spain is displayed centrally, incorporating the arms of Castile, León, Aragon, Granada, and the Netherlands, surrounded by the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece. The shield is superimposed upon two crossed Burgundian fire steels, a dynastic emblem of the Habsburg-Burgundian heritage. The circumferential Latin legend DOMINVS· MIHI· ADIVTOR· (The Lord is my Helper) encircles the design within a beaded border. The overall composition is characteristic of the Philipsdaalder series struck for the County of Holland under Spanish Habsburg rule. The hammered execution results in a slightly irregular flan, consistent with mid-16th-century minting practice at Dordrecht. |
