The Isle of Man's cat coinage series, running from 1988 onward, was among the first bullion programs to use annually changing designs as a deliberate sales mechanism — a strategy that forced collectors to buy every year to maintain a complete set. The 1999 Blue British Shorthair issue falls within that commercial architecture, produced by Pobjoy Mint under license from the Treasury.
At .9999 fineness, this sits above the more common .999 standard. Pobjoy was one of the earlier private mints to achieve four-nines purity consistently in small-denomination gold.
