Reverse description Crowned shield of France bearing three fleurs-de-lis arranged in the traditional French royal heraldic pattern, centered in the field. An ornate crown surmounts the shield. The date 1642 appears within the circular Latin legend, interrupted at the base by the mint mark A for Paris. A beaded inner border encircles the design. The legend SIT. NOMEN. DOMINI. - A - BENEDICTVM. is a devotional inscription meaning 'Blessed be the name of the Lord.'
