Aanvullende informatie

This piece was not a state-sanctioned issue but rather a privately commissioned coinage ordered by Imam Ahmad bin Yahya, who ruled North Yemen from 1948 until his death in 1962. The distinction matters: private imams' issues of this period bypassed the formal minting apparatus entirely, and this aluminium fraction was likely produced abroad — possibly in Austria or England, both of which supplied coining services to Yemen during the mid-twentieth century — rather than struck domestically.

Ahmad's reign was defined by persistent tension between traditional Zaydi imamate authority and modernizing Arab nationalist pressure from Egypt and elsewhere. The coin exists partly because formal monetary infrastructure was almost nonexistent.
