| 正面描述 | Central oval cartouche containing multi-line Arabic calligraphic inscription occupying the majority of the field. The cartouche is surrounded by an elaborate floral and foliate outer border rendered in low relief, with stylized palmette and arabesque ornamental motifs encircling the entire design. The overall composition is characteristic of Yemeni Imamate coinage, with the densely inscribed field leaving little open ground. |

North Yemen's fractional coinage of the early 1950s was produced under Imam Ahmad, who had seized power following the assassination of his father Yahya in 1948. The mint at Sanaa operated with limited technical consistency, which is precisely why this type exists at all — die preparation varied enough across the run to produce meaningfully distinct varieties, catalogued separately on the basis of the Arabic mint name inscription. Y#12.3 specifically carries a large rendering of 'Sanaa' while omitting the alternative spelling 'Sana', a distinction that sounds trivial until you consider how thinly these die differences are documented in the literature.
