The figure is rendered in a schematic Ibero-Punic style characteristic of Cessetani bronze coinage. A Iberian inscription in Levantine semi-syllabic script appears beneath the Pegasus in the lower field, serving as a mint or ethnic identifier. The design fills the reverse field with no exergue line. |

The Cessetani occupied the coastal region around modern Tarragona — Kesse in ancient sources — and began striking bronze coinage in direct response to the Roman presence following Scipio's landing at Emporion in 218 BC. These fractions circulated alongside Roman military currency during the Second Punic War, functioning as small-change in a region that became Rome's primary foothold on the Iberian peninsula.
The series ends around 195 BC, the year Cato the Elder's campaign suppressed a widespread Iberian revolt and effectively subordinated local monetary production to Roman administrative control.
