| Reverse description | The entire reverse field is occupied by a nine-line funerary inscription in Roman capital letters, commemorating the life and death of Grand Master Maximilian Francis, surmounted at the top of the field by a small Teutonic cross. The inscription records his birth date, his election as Coadjutor Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, his inauguration, the date of his death given in both Old Style and New Style calendar dates, and closes with the funerary formula R:I:P (Requiescat In Pace). The plain field and stark typographic layout lend the reverse a solemn, memorial character befitting its commemorative purpose. |
