Beschrijving keerzijde The entire reverse field is occupied by a six-line commemorative inscription in Latin recording the key biographical dates of Louis Anthony of Pfalz-Neuburg: his birth on 9 June 1660, his election as Coadjutor Grand Master on 16 December 1679, his enthronement on 15 January 1685, and his death on 4 May 1694. The mintmaster's initials GFN appear in small characters below the final line in the exergue area. The lettering is rendered in a bold, upright roman style characteristic of late 17th-century German commemorative coinage.

Aanvullende informatie

Louis Anthony of Pfalz-Neuburg served as Grand Master of the Teutonic Order from 1694 until his death that same year — a tenure of only months. Memorial coinage issued upon a Grand Master's death was an established practice within the Order, and the brevity of his rule makes this particular issue scarcer than most in the series. He was the brother of Eleonore Magdalene, Holy Roman Empress and wife of Leopold I, a dynastic connection that almost certainly smoothed his path to the position.
