Leopold I's quarter thalers from Kremnica span the closing years of the Great Turkish War and the immediate aftermath of the 1699 Treaty of Karlowitz, which formally returned most of Hungary to Habsburg control after 150 years of Ottoman occupation. Kremnica — the oldest continuously operating mint in Central Europe — had functioned under varying degrees of Ottoman pressure throughout that period, though it remained in Habsburg hands. The date range on this issue reflects not a single production run but the slow administrative rhythm of a mint re-establishing itself within a newly consolidated imperial territory.
