Obverse description Two confronted draped busts facing one another in the center of the coin, each depicted in period costume with ruffled collars, representing Duke John Philip I and Duke Frederick VIII of Saxe-Altenburg. The busts are rendered in the hammered style characteristic of early seventeenth-century German coinage. A circular beaded inner border frames the effigies, with the Latin legend distributed around the periphery. Heraldic ornaments or mintmaster marks appear at intervals within the legend. The overall composition reflects the joint-rule convention common to contemporary Saxon ducal coinage.

Reverse description Two confronted draped busts facing one another at center, representing Duke John William IV and Duke Frederick William II of Saxe-Altenburg, shown in contemporary armorial dress with ruffled collars. The date 1606 is prominently displayed in the upper field between the two effigies. A beaded inner circle frames the portrait group, with the Latin legend running around the outer periphery. Heraldic rose or quatrefoil ornaments separate segments of the legend at the base of the coin. The reverse continues the dynastic joint-portrait convention established on the obverse, consistent with the multi-ruler coinage traditions of the Ernestine Saxon duchies.
