附加信息

John George I died in October 1656 after a reign of nearly four decades, during which Saxony navigated the catastrophic Thirty Years' War with considerable political damage to its long-term influence. This posthumous memorial issue was a standard electoral practice — death thalers and their fractions were struck specifically for distribution at funeral ceremonies and to court officials, functioning as mourning gifts rather than circulating money. Most survived in above-average condition precisely because recipients kept them.

The Cl/Kahnt reference places this firmly within the Dresden mint's output for the funeral observances.
