John Albert II ruled Mecklenburg-Güstrow during one of the most financially destructive periods in German history — the opening years of the Thirty Years' War, when coinage across the Empire was being systematically debased under the Kipper und Wipper crisis. Small fractional silver issues of exactly this period and region are frequently suspect for alloy manipulation, though Mecklenburg's ducal mint maintained comparatively better standards than many neighboring territories. Kunzel 449a distinguishes this die pairing from closely related variants in the same emission.
