Johann Christian and Georg Rudolf ruled Liegnitz-Brieg jointly following the death of their father Joachim Friedrich in 1602, a co-regency arrangement that produced a distinct and relatively brief coinage series. The duchy sat in Silesia under nominal Habsburgs suzerainty, and 1619 was a charged year — the Bohemian revolt that triggered the Thirty Years' War broke out that same spring, placing Silesian rulers in an immediate and dangerous position between Prague and Vienna.
Georg Rudolf would eventually be stripped of his lands by Ferdinand II. The joint-reign issues of 1619 thus mark the last months before that political unraveling began in earnest.
