Reverse description The entire reverse field is occupied by a multi-line Latin funerary inscription in capital letters, filling the coin face from top to bottom within a plain inner border. The text serves as a commemorative epitaph recording the death of the Illustrious Princess Hedwig, Marchioness of Brandenburg and Duchess of Brunswick and Lüneburg, beloved mother of Henry Julius, who died on the eleventh day before the Kalends of September (22 August) in the year MDCII (1602), having lived sixty-two years, seven months, and twenty days. The inscription is rendered in the terse, abbreviated Latin epigraphic style typical of late Renaissance German commemorative coinage.
