| Beschrijving keerzijde | A complex six-fold quartered coat of arms with a central escutcheon, set within an elaborately decorated ornamental frame with strapwork and foliate detailing. Three ornate crested helmets with mantling are displayed above the shield, each surmounted by distinctive heraldic devices. The motto HONESTVM PRO PATRIA is divided across the reverse field on either side of the arms, reflecting the dynastic pride of the House of Brunswick. The overall composition is characteristic of the ambitious heraldic style favoured on German princely coinage of the late 16th century. |

Henry Julius ruled Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel from 1589 until his death in 1613, and his coinage program was unusually prolific — he maintained an active mint policy partly to fund an extravagant court that included one of the earliest professional theatre companies in German-speaking lands. The quarter thaler denomination served the practical demands of commerce at a moment when the thaler system was still consolidating across the Lower Saxon Circle.
Welter 659 is a well-documented type within the series, though die combinations for Henry Julius's fractional silver can vary considerably across the run of his long reign.
