| Obverse description | Central shield bearing the arms of Basel, rendered in an ornate Baroque cartouche with scrolling acanthus decoration, is surrounded by eight smaller oval shields each depicting the arms of associated cantons or allied territories. The surrounding shields are arranged symmetrically around the central device, separated by stylized foliate ornaments. The entire composition fills the field to the beaded border, with no legend present. The relief work displays fine Baroque craftsmanship consistent with early eighteenth-century Swiss die-engraving. |
